Why did I get involved in learning and development? Having left university to work in the Finance Sector, I decided after a few years to look for a more challenging role. By chance, a training role was vacant within the company that I worked for. That was in the eighties and was the start of a satisfying and varied career within HR and Training & Development.
About twelve years ago I made the decision to become a self-employed training consultant. This has provided me with the opportunity to work with many great people in a variety of companies within both Public and Private Sectors. Looking back to my childhood, I was always sitting my dolls in a row and teaching them using my blackboard – so perhaps the desire to work in T&D has always been there!
What is it like to learn with me? I see myself as a facilitator rather than as an instructor. One of my strengths is my ability to build relationships with and motivate people. Accustomed to working with a wide range of people, from the top to the bottom of organisations, I am able to adapt my style to ensure that participants have an enjoyable learning experience and gain real benefit from the event. Throughout my career in Training & Development I have received consistently excellent feedback and feel that I have managed to make a real contribution to the development of others.
What qualifies me to help? Over the years I have run a multitude of programmes within companies ranging from leadership and management through to equality and diversity. I also have extensive experience in career coaching and have been involved in assessment and development centres. I am Team Management Systems and Level A&B qualified.
What do not a lot of people know about me? Another aspect of my life is spent in the Arts. I run a fine art company with my sister and I project manage large art related charity events. This involves gaining sponsorship, dealing with artists and working with the media to promote the events.
My family, for many generations, have rode and bred horses and a lot of my time is also spent in the equestrian world attending events and fundraising for equine charities.
I also enjoy creative writing, which comes in very useful when working with the media!
