Why did I get involved in learning and development? I discovered my passion for people development by chance when I took up the offer of a job in youth training way back in the mid eighties! Yes I really am that old!! By the late nineties, after an interesting and rewarding career in people and organisational development in both the public and private sectors and gaining a Masters in Human Resource Development along the way, I wanted the freedom and opportunity to follow my dreams and work with a great team of people. By 1999 I had found a set of people who shared my passion and values and together we founded Peoplematters. We chose the name to reflect our conviction that people are the key to sustainable success in business.
What is it like to learn with me? Over the years I have been privileged to work on a range of Culture Change, Leadership, Team and Individual Development programmes with a wide variety of organisations. I am particularly interested in helping senior leaders and teams develop the mind-set and behaviours that allow them to engage their people and collaborate with their stakeholders to achieve ethical and sustainable business success. People tell me that my practical approach to understanding organisational issues and my ability to engage with people at all levels of the organisation helps me build a climate of trust and enables me to inspire, communicate and involve those I work with.
What qualifies me to help? Over the years I have continued learning through each new experience and have gained accreditations to administer and provide feedback in a range of psychometric assessment tools including Emotional Intelligence, Myers-Briggs, Typemapping, FIRO Element B, Verax and Kouzes and Posner.
What do not a lot of people know about me? As well as my role in Peoplematters, I’m a former Trustee of Aspire4Africa. I was fortunate to work with a fantastic group of people on an exciting and innovative project aimed at developing leadership and business skills in African countries. And of course just occasionally I need to remind myself how much I enjoy the theatre, reading, walking, eating wonderful food and spending time on my farm!
